Man, 80, strangles wife, police say

A woman in her 70s was choked to death by her husband at their home after a quarrel over a trivial matter, Shanghai police said yesterday.
Neighbors said the couple seldom argued and had a good relationship.
The suspect surnamed Shen, 80, was caught by police at the scene. The slaying of the woman, surnamed Gu, happened about 3am in the couple's home in Yangpu District, neighbors said. "We got the call at 3:40am and when we arrived the woman was already dead," a police officer told Shanghai Daily yesterday. "Shen did not leave the scene and was taken by our officers."
