Man accused of killing ex-boss

AN employee fired recently by his female boss has been detained and accused of killing her and setting her apartment on fire to cover up the crime on Saturday, police said.
The suspect, surnamed Zhai, was caught by police on Saturday night and confessed, saying that he had had a dispute with the victim over a settlement for his job termination, Jiading District police said.
Authorities were called to the fire at the apartment at Lane 365 of Quewang Road at 11:46am and firefighters quickly put out the fire. They found the dead victim, surnamed Song. An examination found Song died before the fire and was strangled.
The victim, from Shandong Province, had lived at the apartment on the third floor of Building 97 for two years and recently had asked to extend the contract, according to the apartment owner, surnamed Chen. "She seemed quite normal, and I have no idea how the place caught on fire," Chen said.
Neighbors said Song was running a small business and had merchandise stacked up in her apartment.
