Man allegedly extorted prostitute

A man was arrested and charged with robbery after he snapped nude photos of a prostitute and took 3,900 yuan (US$610) from her, Minhang District prosecutors said yesterday.

The 25-year-old suspect named Guo Liang and his friend surnamed Luo, allegedly called the victim, surnamed Wu, to a hotel room on Hongmei Road S. on March 29. When Wu entered the hotel room about midnight, Guo and Luo threatened her with a knife, took her clothes off, tied her up, blindfolded her and sealed her mouth with adhesive tape.

After they found only 80 yuan and a mobile phone from the street girl, they took photos and extorted her for 3,000 yuan. Wu, fearing her nude photo going online, called her father to transfer 2,500 yuan to Guo's bank account.

Guo and Luo were not satisfied and asked for more. Worrying about further extortion, Wu finally reported the crime to the police.

Guo was captured on April 9. He allegedly confessed to the police.
