Man arrested for attempted murder
A MAN who hacked his girlfriend in the head dozens of times has been arrested for attempted murder, prosecutors said yesterday.
The suspect Yang Chunfu said he wanted to teach his girlfriend a lesson because he suspected she was engaged in prostitution, according to prosecutors. He insisted that he loved her very much.
The girlfriend, surnamed Zhang, said Yang was lying. She told prosecutors the real reason for the attack was that she wanted to break up with him after she learned he was married.
The woman, who divorced due to her ex-husband's extramarital affair, decided to break up with Yang after he admitted he was married as she didn't want to ruin another family, she told prosecutors.
But Yang refused.
He found Zhang one day last November in her room and hacked her in the head with a kitchen knife, prosecutors said.
Doctors needed more than 200 stitches to close the wounds.
Yang surrendered to police. He told officers that he just knocked her on the head with the back of a knife.
A police doctor concluded the wounds were made by a knife blade. Prosecutors then decided to charge Yang with attempted murder.
