Man caught after fatal stabbing attack in city

A MAN was caught after he stabbed a woman to death with a knife on a street in Minhang District yesterday afternoon.
Minhang District police said the suspect, surnamed Jia, had a history of mental illness.
Bloodstains were clearly visible on Qingnian Road, in the Qibao area where the stabbing happened.
It was about 5pm when the unemployed man stabbed the woman, 56, with a fruit knife in the neck, witnesses said.
"The woman rushed to our store with her hand over her neck and asked us to call the police," said a staff member of a nearby hair salon. "Her neck was bleeding badly."
Jia chased the woman, surnamed Shao, and stabbed her again in the stomach. Shao was unconscious before an ambulance came, witnesses said.
Shao was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.
Jia was found hiding behind an office by police with the help of residents.
Shao was the director of the residential committee of a local community and the two knew each other, residents said.
