Man caught after robbing pedestrian on Chinese New Year's Eve

A MAN who injured a pedestrian and robbed him of a bag on the Chinese New Year's Eve in Chongming Island has been arrested 28 hours later, police said yesterday.

In a bike parking spot down a building in Bu Town, the suspect, surnamed Lu, allegedly hit his victim in the head with a blunt object and grabbed his bag at about 7:50pm on Friday.

Lu was once captured by passers-by when fleeing but managed to escape on an e-bike, giving up the grabbed bag, police said.

He fell in the hands of the police at midnight yesterday and allegedly confessed to his crime.

The man who got hit in the head was later treated in the hospital for wounds, but wasn't critically injured, police said.
