Man caught for storing fireworks in apartment building
A Shanghai resident was detained last night for stocking boxes of firecrackers illegally in a residential complex.
Law enforcement officers got a tip from the neighbors of the man, who was identified by his surname Cheng, in a residential complex at 1042 Changhua Road, Putuo District yesterday.
Police and fire department officers nabbed him at 9pm last night after finding 43 boxes of firecrackers in the basement and an apartment of the building.
Cheng would be detained for 15 days and all his firecrackers had been removed, police said.
During questioning, Cheng said the firecrackers were bought from peddlers and were for sale. The business has been ongoing for one year.
Police said Cheng had told an undercover reporter for the news channel of Shanghai Media Group who pretended to be a buyer that he had been selling firecrackers for 10 years. He bragged to get the business done.
