Man crushed in underpass, traffic snarled up
A drunken man was killed by cars after he fell into an underpass of the Middle Ring Road during the rush hour this morning.
The victim surnamed Guo was a 27-year-old migrant worker. He was crushed into pieces by cars running in the Wuzhong Road underpass in Minhang District, police said.
Police said Guo left a bar on Wuzhong Road and fell into the underpass as he tried to cross Hongxu Road from the roof.
The traffic on the Middle Ring Road became jammed as three of the four lanes were closed by police for investigation.
The man's body was removed by noon and traffic gradually returned to normal, police said.
"The call center received a report at 6:19am, saying there was a body in the Wuzhong Road underpass," police said this afternoon.
Minhang District police went there and closed the underpass at 7:18am. Meanwhile, traffic controller advised drivers to avoid the area.
The incident caused a massive jam that affected the traffic of the entire Middle Ring Road. "Traffic was very bad. Cars were crawling," said a passenger surnamed Xu, who was stuck on the road for more than 30 minutes.
