Man detained after poisoning female colleague as an act of retaliation
A man, who had forced mercury, a highly poisonous substance, through window screens into a female colleague's home, was arrested for utilizing a dangerous substance, prosecutors in Putuo District said on Tuesday.
The man stated that he committed the crime because he wanted to seek vengeance on a women as she declined his proposal for a romantic relationship.
The man, surnamed Che, served as a worker at a local restaurant where he met the young and attractive lady. However, as a result of the rejection, Che continued harassing the woman by texting, calling her and even threatening her friend.
After all of these "efforts" ended in vain, Che bought four bottles of mercury, weighing more than 100 grams, from online stores on Taobao.com and used an injector to insert the mercury into her house through the window screens. Between May 23 and 26, he committed the act of inserting mercury into the woman’s house three times with approximately 50 grams of mercury.
When the victim's grandma noticed that there were multiple strange "water droplets" in their kitchen and living room, she reported it to her neighbor and was told that the unusual liquid resembles mercury. Che was captured on June 5 after the victim's family reported the incident to police.
