Man detained as body found in power room

A MAN has been detained in connection with the murder of a woman whose body was discovered on Wednesday in the power room at a residential complex, police said yesterday.

Residents discovered the body, which was wrapped in sheets, following complaints of a smell.

Officers said the suspect, surnamed Li, had confessed to killing the woman, surnamed Chen, after being detained yesterday morning. According to Li's confession, he killed Chen on March 17 during an argument about love affairs.

Chen's body was discovered in the locked power supply room of the residential complex on Ruiyang Road in the Pudong New Area.

A couple, thinking a small animal may have died there, pried open the door and were shocked to discover a body.

"It was well wrapped and we were scared," said a female resident, surnamed Song, who alerted police.

Li told police he strangled Chen as they quarrelled on the rooftop of the same building on the evening of March 17.

It is claimed he wrapped the body tightly, carried it to the ground floor and managed to hide it inside the power distribution room before escaping the scene.

Chen was reported missing by her family. A forensic examination confirmed that the body discovered was Chen's.
