Man detained for stabbing wife to death

A MAN has been detained after he stabbed his wife to death in Qingpu District, police said yesterday.

Police said the man, surnamed Meng, 28, had a dispute with his wife, surnamed Chang, 25, on July 1. The couple were in their car near Hualong Road at the time, police said.

Meng, a Hebei Province native, killed her with a knife and dumped her body in the Pudong New Area, police said.

The next day police received a call saying a woman's body was found wrapped in a blanket in a greenbelt near Yongtai Road.

Police offered a 10,000 yuan (US$1,629) reward for clues about the case.

They also placed posters in the area with descriptions of Chang and their investigation soon focused on her husband as the main suspect.

Meng was caught on Friday in a card game room in Baoshan District, police said.

Chang worked at a nightclub, while Meng was a labor contractor.

Police yesterday used microblog to express their gratitude to those who provided clues.
