A MAN has been detained for 10 days for making up a story that an unlicensed taxi driver stole 10,000 yuan (US$1,584) from him and reporting a false alarm, city police said yesterday.
The man, surnamed Fang, was also fined 200 yuan and the illegal cabbie was turned over to the Shanghai Traffic Law Enforcement team. Fang, who said he had consumed some alcohol earlier, claimed he had put the money on the dashboard and that the cabbie stole it. Later, Fang told police he had made up "one lie after another."
