Man electrocuted after climbing telegraph pole
A MAN from Jiangsu Province was electrocuted after he climbed a telegraph pole in Nanda Road in Baoshan District yesterday.
Police said he had been trying to check whether a relative was at home.
The 27-year-old, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
A neighbor surnamed Zhang said he saw the man ring the doorbell of a second-floor apartment about 8am, but there was no reply. Minutes later, he saw the man climbing a pole which overlooked the apartment.
He came in contact with a line carrying 35,000 volts, police said.
"He was entangled on the utility lines after the shock and his body and his clothes were burnt," a neighbor said.
The man was still hanging on the high-voltage lines when firefighters arrived.
