Man forgets key, falls to his death

A man fell to his death yesterday morning in Baoshan District when he tried to climb into his apartment from upstairs because he had forgotten his key.

The accident happened about 11:40am when no family member was home to let him in. When the man tried to climb down to his home on the fifth floor from the apartment just above, he lost his balance and fell. Though the man hit a stretched-out clothes hanger on the second floor, he was killed at the scene. Police did not identify him.

Li Hui, a netizen, questioned the sixth-floor neighbor's decision to allow the man to climb down.

A similar case occurred seven years ago, in which Chen Zhongwei, a 74-year-old orthopedist with an international reputation for his pioneering work in reattaching severed fingers and limbs, fell from a window to his seventh-floor apartment and was killed. Chen was locked out of his flat.

When he tried to climb in from a balcony, the window was locked and, unable to turn around, he fell.
