Man gets 6 months in jail for repeatedly smashing ATM machines
A man has been sentenced to six months in jail for repeatedly destroying ATM machines in Minhang District, thepaper.cn reported today.
The 29-year-old man, surnamed Zhu, who had a Agriculture Bank of China debit card, found that he could not use the “Quick Pass” payment function at stores in his neighborhood.
Zhu argued with the bank staff, but it did not help much. He canceled the card and gave vent to his frustrations by smashing the bank’s ATM, the report said.
He smashed the ATM again with an iron rod and a fruit knife, causing a loss of 8,000 yuan (US$1,258).
Police caught up with him when he tried to break the ATM for the third time on August 18.
