Man gets 7 years for credit card swindle

A MAN has his jail term reduced from 11 years to seven years in a second trial after swindling 45 credit card holders.

He won a shorter sentence because he was convicted of credit fraud in the latest trial instead of theft in the first verdict, today's Wenhui Daily reported.

Ye Peitian, 27, opened an online store in December to help customers pay their bills at discounts varying from 5 percent to 10 percent, Shanghai No.1 Intermediate People's Court heard.

He then used credit cards and their passwords bought from another online seller to pay the bills and shared the income with the seller.

In this way, he withdrew more than 200,000 yuan from 45 cards, the court said.

Ye was also fined 11,000 yuan (US$1,611) in the second trial.
