Man gets prison in snatching

A MAN got nine years in prison for snatching a gold necklace from an elderly woman in downtown Jing'an District, severely injuring her arm and finger, a local court ruled yesterday.
The man, Lu Liang, asked for directions and followed the woman on Wuding Road W. on May 16. She was aware of being followed and turned to walk toward a guard post when Lu suddenly stepped forward and grabbed the necklace, prosecutors said.
The woman grabbed Lu's collar but he escaped.
Lu sold the gold necklace and a gold pendant on it for 10,490 yuan (US$1,681).
The court imposed a harsher sentence because Lu's plan turned violent.
