Man held after cop injured in accident

A DRIVER has been detained after he hit a police officer while driving without a license, police said yesterday.

Officer Fu Lingang sustained five broken ribs and bruises on his head in the accident, according to the Xuhui District police.

The suspect surnamed He fled the scene, but was caught within eight hours, police said.

The case happened on Monday afternoon when Fu was on duty on Xiqin Road near Kangjian Road in Xuhui. He's car was found parked illegally on the roadside and Fu was about to take a picture for evidence and write a ticket.

He, whose license had been suspended after a drunk driving incident in 2009, soon came to the car and promised to leave.

When He was asked to show his license, he started the car and tried to escape.

One of Fu's arms got caught in the car door and he was dragged nearly 100 meters before He braked suddenly, throwing the officer to the ground, police said.

Fu was sent to the No. 6 People's Hospital, police said.

The district's police headquarters checked all the footage of surveillance cameras in the area and caught He later that night.

The police said He intentionally fled the scene and showed no regard for the officer's safety.
