Man held as Metro workers injured
A MAN has been detained for hitting two subway security staff members on May 1, police said yesterday.
The man, surnamed Zhang, was the first to be detained for criminal responsibility in such cases, police said.
Two similar incidents were reported last month but the offenders faced administrative penalties like short-term detention and fines.
Zhang hit and broke the ribs of security staff member Yan Peihua at the Shanghai South Railway station on Line 3, police said. He hit another security staff member who tried to help Yan, police said.
The suspect was stopped after he tried to skip the security check, police said.
Zhang told police that he was not in a good mood that day as he had a quarrel with his parents.
"I lost my temper," Zhang told police officers. "I am very sorry for injuring the security workers."
