Man in custody after woman's death

A MIDDLE-AGED man is in custody after he allegedly killed his girlfriend, police said yesterday.
The man, surnamed Lin, 54, surrendered to officers on Wednesday. The victim, who was not from Shanghai, had recently moved in with Lin.
Police said Lin likely strangled the woman in their rented room in downtown Huangpu District.
His neighbors reportedly told a local newspaper that Lin is an ex-convict and that he had assaulted two other women who once lived with him.
Police did not confirm nor deny the allegations and declined to give further details as the investigation is ongoing.
"He has lived with several women," said a neighbor who declined to be named.
One of his ex-girlfriends was blinded in an assault by Lin, the neighbor said.
"I knew little about him," said another neighbor, surnamed Wang, who lived next door to Lin.
