Man kidnapped over fake jade sale
ZHABEI District police said they detained three people for illegally imprisoning a man for five hours.
The police said the victim surnamed Zhou owed the main suspect surnamed Zhang 10,000 yuan (US$1465) deposit but Zhou never returned it. So Zhang and his men imprisoned Zhou and called Zhou's wife for the money.
The case is still being investigated.
Last month Zhou met Zhang, an enthusiast and collector of jade objects.
Zhou showed Zhang a "jade pig," which he said he found in the earth beside his suburban house while renovating.
Zhou said the item, which he actually bought from a stall, was worth 58,000 yuan.
Zhang gave Zhou 10,000 yuan deposit so he could verify it, only to discover it was made of glass. Zho would not return the money.
