Man loses appeal, heads to jail for 5 years for road traffic violation and injuring law enforcers

A MAN who appealed his five-year jail term for driving in the wrong direction and injuring law enforcers was rejected by the Shanghai No.2 Intermediate People’s Court.

The man crashed his car into another vehicle leading to a three-car collision. Later he attacked a police officer while being taken to a police station causing another car crash.

The man, surnamed Liu, was driving in the wrong direction after having drinks at the crossroad of Caoan Road and Jiayi Road in Jiading District on January 19. After he was asked to stop by a traffic police surnamed Wang, he accelerated and crashed into Wang. Wang, held on to the hood of the car, but fell to the ground after being dragged for nearly 100 meters.

A traffic assistant was also hurt by Liu.

Liu later crashed into the back of a waiting car that bumped into other two cars.

Liu was caught by police and while he was being taken to the police station, kicked officer Huang, who was driving the police car.

The court said Liu’s driving license was suspended for a previous offense in July last year. The new charges amount to endangering public safety and not drunk driving.
