Man, oh mannequin, some disguise

A BURGLARY suspect was nabbed in a clothing outlet while posing as one of the plastic models in an effort to avoid capture after the theft was reported.

It was the cloth shoes on his feet that gave away the suspect surnamed Shao, who was standing beside one of the figures with one hand on its shoulder, said Pudong New Area police yesterday.

Shao has been detained with his partner, surnamed Wang, for 70 theft cases in Hudong, Puxing, Jinyang, Luoshan, Yangjing, Gaoqiao and Zhoupu areas, involving 200,000 yuan (US$29,300).

The theft was discovered in the early morning on Wednesday in a clothing shop of a hypermarket in the Hudong area after a security guard found the rolling shutters of the shop had been cracked.

Police said they rushed to the scene and started the search with a flashlight.

Shao, standing with the models, was not found at first, but his cloth shoes later caught the eye of the police officers.

During the investigation, Shao confessed the thefts he had committed and identified Wang, who was caught the next day, police said.
