Man plunges 6 floors to death in Pudong hospital
A man fell six floors to his death yesterday morning as he tried to escape chasing security guards at the Renji Hospital in Pudong District, Xinmin.cn reported.
The man tried to steal a bag from a pregnant woman when she yelled and security guards came running to capture him, the report said. The suspect said he found the bag on the ground and tried to run away.
As he was led downstairs, the man broke loose from the guards and locked himself in a pantry on the sixth floor. When the guards forced the door open, the man had climbed on to the window ledge.
As the security guards were looking for ways to grab him, the man lost his clutch on the handrail and fell to the second-floor terrace. He died instantly.
Police investigation into the case is ongoing, the report said.
