Man sets off extinguisher 'for excitement' on Metro
A MAN who set off a fire extinguisher on a Metro train on Saturday told police he did so "for some excitement."
The incident, on a Line 7 train at around noon, caused services to be suspended and thousands of passengers to be evacuated, the Metro authority said.
No fire had broken out on the train, police said.
The man, a 39-year-old surnamed Yu from Shanxi Province, was detained by police for causing public disorder.
Metro operator officials said the incident occurred when the train stopped at the Jing'an Temple Station.
Passengers and staff were shocked to see white fumes emerging from the carriage, which triggered a fire alarm.
An inspection found no trace of smoke or fire.
Yu confessed that he was just "trying something new and exciting to have fun."
The train was removed from service and operations resumed later in the afternoon.
