Man stabs woman and girl to death

A MAN killed a seven-year-old girl and her grandmother yesterday over an alleged personal vendetta in Shanghai's Chongming County.
Officers said they received a call at 8:23am with the caller saying a man had killed two people in Xianghua Town on the island.
Witnesses said at first the man quarreled with the woman on Xiangyu Road. The argument escalated into a fight and the man pulled out a knife and stabbed the woman, the witnesses said.
As the woman screamed for help the man turned to the woman's granddaughter, who was crying loudly beside the woman, and slashed at the girl, witnesses said.
They added the man fled before police officers arrived. Witnesses described the scene as "brutal."
The victims were later pronounced dead, police said.
People in the town said the suspect was in his 50s and that the victims were his neighbors.
The suspect is still at large.
