Medvedev visits Expo

Russia President Dimitri Medvedev attended a ceremony to celebrate the Russia Pavilion Day yesterday morning.

Medvedev said the Russian Pavilion tells the world about the country's future development priorities.

He visited both the China and Russia pavilions, along with Vice President Xi Jinping, and also launched a website introducing Russia's achievements at the 2010 World Expo. The website "Best City Solution Data Base" was jointly designed by the Russia Pavilion, Shanghai government and the Expo bureau.

Xi said yesterday that China and Russia need to value the sound bilateral relationship they possess and take measures to push relations forward.

Xi said the successful meeting between President Hu Jintao and Russian President Medvedev on Monday deepened the two sides' strategic cooperation on regional and international issues while strongly pushing forward bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade, energy, high-technology and culture.

Xi made the remarks during a meeting with Medvedev.

The vice president said both China and Russia are working to accelerate economic development and regard one another as important trade partners.

He said the two sides should stick to the principle of win-win with mutual benefits while evaluating large-scale cooperation projects.

He said the two sides should let economic cooperation play an even bigger role in promoting the development of both countries.

Medvedev said Russia-China relations have reached an unprecedented high due to the high level of mutual trust between the two countries.

He said Russia will unswervingly work on developing future Russia-China strategic cooperation.

Russia is ready to deepen bilateral cooperation at local levels in the areas of high-technology, mutual investment and new energy, Medvedev said.

Medvedev also expressed willingness to conduct ever closer cooperation and coordination with China on regional and international affairs.

Medvedev added Russia is ready to learn from China's experience in successfully hosting the Olympic Games and World Expo.

Xi said the Russia Pavilion is one of the largest and most popular attractions at the Expo.

He said the Russia Pavilion staged a vivid display of the country's long and splendid history.

Medvedev completed his three-day trip to China and returned to Russia yesterday evening.
