Men detained as two women killed in district
TWO men were detained by Minhang District police after allegedly killing two women in separate incidents.
One suspect was held after he allegedly robbed and killed a woman for a few hundred yuan, police said. The man, surnamed Gu, a migrant worker who came in town recently, was addicted to online games and had already committed two robberies, according to officers.
Police said the victim's body was found in the Huaxingang creek near Zhongyi Road by anglers about 9pm last Tuesday. It was later confirmed that this was a woman surnamed Yu, who had been reported missing by her elder sister.
Checking surveillance camera footage, detectives saw a man fitting Gu's description acting suspiciously.
Gu was detained in an Internet cafe about 9pm Wednesday, police said. The case was still under investigation yesterday.
In the other case, a man killed his ex-girlfriend and robbed her three roommates in the dormitory of a factory in Minhang following a dispute, according to police.
The suspect, surnamed Chi, turned himself in three hours later in Songjiang District.
The incident look place at about 4am Saturday in a hat factory's dorm room at Gudai Road, police said.
Sounds of arguing were heard from a room on the second floor of the dormitory building, neighbors said.
Police found a woman about 20 years old dead in Room 202, and three other women tied up and gagged.
The suspect was taken back to the scene as part of the investigation. According to the Oriental Morning Post, he showed police where he'd dumped a knife.
