Men had homemade guns in attack

SIX suspects have been detained for allegedly injuring a man with a knife and using homemade guns to threaten him in Chongming County, local police announced yesterday.

The police are still hunting another suspect.

The incident happened on Wednesday when the suspects, led by a man surnamed Du, went to a house belonging to the victim, surnamed Huang, in the county's Puzhen Town.

Huang's son is said to have argued with Du's friend over gambling debts in which Huang's son owed a sum of money to the friend, local police said.

Du gathered some friends and went to Huang's home to get the money back, police said.

During the argument, both Huang and Du were injured, police said.

They are in hospital in stable conditions, police reported.

Huang told the police that the suspects carried guns and knifes.

The guns are reported to have been made by the suspects and are designed to shoot small metal balls.

However, they did not use them, Huang said.
