Men hunted in attack on bar
LOCAL police are hunting for suspects who smashed windows, computers and other property at a German-style bar on downtown Huangjincheng Road late Saturday.
It happened at the Munich Beer Garden, a bar and restaurant on No. 706 Huangjincheng Road in Changning District on Saturday when a group of men attacked, police said.
Workers said more than 10 customers, men and women aged around 40, demanded a waiter cancel an order of five cups of beer totaling 250 yuan (US$40.32) about 8:30pm, according to Youth Daily.
The waiter, surnamed Xiong, 24, said the bar couldn't cancel the order once the beer was served, but the customers grew angry, bar workers said.
"A tall man then beat the waiter," said a witness surnamed Gao. They paid and left after the owner called police. About 11pm, workers saw five or six vehicles pull up at Gubei and Huangjincheng roads. More than 20 people got out.
"They are all wearing black clothes and crew cuts. They are all holding knives, each about 10 centimeters long," said a customer surnamed Fang. "They rushed into the bar and smashed everything in their sight. Everyone in the bar was so shocked that they were all looking for places to hide."
They smashed two glass doors, computers, cups, chairs and tables. Workers said the bar had over 10,000 yuan (US$1,590) in damages and may not reopen until next week.
Police said they identified several suspects and are hunting them. More witnesses are being asked to help police.
