Mentally disturbed man retaliates female colleague after rejection by mercury poisoning
City police apprehended a restaurant worker , surnamed Che, on June 5 after Che was suspected of poisoning a female colleague, whom Che secretly loved, using mercury, a highly toxic liquid metal that will evaporate even in room temperature.
Despite how the situation was clearly not in his favor, he remained very calm and adamant in court. When asked why he chose mercury as the poison, he replied that he has a good understanding of the toxicity of mercury and that in spite of how mercury is highly poisonous and can cause death easily, he performed an experiment and claimed that mercury could be harmless when it is evaporated and then inhaled in small amounts.
His motives of poisoning the female colleague were clear.
When Che confessed that he was in love with Tian and proposed to start a romantic relationship with her, he was rejected directly. The after effects of the rejection were proved to be too much for Che to handle and was evidently mentally affecting Che severely.
Following the rejection, Che’s behavior was reported to be completely unusual and bizarre. Occasionally, when Tian and her friends were eating lunch together, Che would be lurking in the shadowy corners stalking her while silently taking pictures of Tian.
Furthermore, Che would often abruptly interrupt conversations between Tian and her friends with sinister dialogue such as “Don’t talk to other people, just seeing you laugh makes me feel incredibly uncomfortable” or “Go die quickly, but when you’re on the way home, make sure to be extra careful.”
However, Che’s actions were not only limited to the phrases and stalking; he also repeatedly phone called Tian at the dead of the night or at dawn. Even after Tian blocked Che’s number, he used the Internet in order to continue harassing her.
These oppressive measures left Tian in extreme distress.
In addition, seeing that Tian never paid any attention to him, Che went to find her friend, surnamed Wang. He let Wang know that he purchased a powerful energy weapon that had the ability to instantly blind people within 100 meters of its range. During the talk, he revealed himself to be a toxicology expert.
When Wang questioned Che about his motives, he replied that Tian rejected him in a fashion that was overly rude and excessively harsh. He later unwaveringly spoke out his eerily strange theory: “If you love a girl for her appearance, make her lose her beauty and cause her to be ugly so that no one would want her except you. If you love a girl for her personality, destroy her mentally so that you will be the only person who still would want her.”
According to the remarks of Che, he thought that if Tian were to be poisoned, she would be more likely to accept his offer of a romantic relationship. As a result, Che bought 4 bottles of mercury, weighing 100 grams in total, from the Internet. Afterwards, he managed to search up Tian’s home address from the restaurant worker registration form. He then intended to use syringes in order to inject mercury into Tian’s house.
Over the following three days at night from May 23 to 26, Che went to Tian’s house to inject the poison.
He injected over 50 grams of mercury into Tian’s kitchen and living room.
Be that as it may, Che’s scheme was thwarted.
Earlier on, Che was already suspected of utilizing dangerous substances by local prosecutors in the Putou District. Therefore, they were already on high alert.
Meanwhile, Tian’s family of 5 started noticing anomalous “water’ droplets appearing out of the blue. After a neighbor suggested that these droplets might be mercury, Tian immediately notified the police.
Subsequently, Tian noticed on the surveillance camera tape that Che often appeared in the middle of the night around her building. For that reason, she directly called Che to question him about the mercury but Che responded that he didn’t want to talk to her at all. Regardless of this seemingly failed attempt to prove Che was the culprit, Tian called up her friend, Wang, to talk to Che.
Along with the combined suspicion of the local prosecutors, the Putou District Procurator officially approved the arrest of Che.
