Metro Line 9 will extend to old Songjiang
METRO Line 9 will be extended underground southward through ancient Songjiang Town, capital of southwest Shanghai's Songjiang District.
The third phase of the line's construction will start on December 30, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.
The project, expected to open in 2012 at a cost of 2.69 billion yuan (US$393,961), will run 5.5 kilometers underground from Jiuting Town, the existing terminal of Line 9, to Songjiang Town, with three stations.
At Songjiang Town terminal, the line will connect with Songjiang South Station on the Shanghai-Hangzhou Passenger Railway line now under construction and expected to open next year.
Trains will run at a top speed of 80kmh on Line 9, covering the distance between old and new towns within 10 minutes, compared to 30 minutes in a car.
