Metro and bus theft crackdown
SHANGHAI police are stepping up the fight against theft on the Metro and buses, especially in suburban areas, where the crime - sometimes accompanied by violence - is on the rise.
Officers have detained some 200 thieves since New Year and seized stolen items worth nearly 200,000 yuan (US$30,384 ), Shanghai Public Security Bureau said. In the outskirts of the city, many people - often workers in suburban factories - carry a large amount of money with them when taking buses, making them easy targets, said police.
