Metro couriers fined for skipping checks
METRO police have caught 40 delivery workers who skipped security checks by passing goods over turnstiles since late March.
The workers received fines and their companies got warnings. More than 4,000 items of contraband have been confiscated from Metro stations since March 15, officials said today.
City delivery companies must sign agreements with both police and the subway operator to have all goods checked by X-ray machines after a crackdown across 11 subway lines.
Police tried to cover the loophole as many workers were found carrying packages onto the subways, with co-workers waiting at stations to take delivery without being checked.
