Metro flasher beaten by other passengers
METRO police said they caught a man who exposed himself to sexually harass a young female passenger at a crowded subway train during rush hour yesterday.
The man tried to escape the Line 7 train but he was stopped by the female victim and a group of other male passengers, who beat and kicked him as he lay on the ground at Zhenping Road Station. The man burst into tears after he was beaten and was then taken away by police, according to witnesses.
He was the third subway train harassment suspect detained by police in the past seven days.
In the latest case, the man unzipped his trousers and leaned toward a young woman standing in front of him, according to a witness who gave her name as Laura who said she was standing beside the man in the Line 7 train about 8:40am.
Laura said the woman looked back and screamed loudly, "What's that down below? How sick you are! How can you be called a man? Catch him!"
She said almost all the passengers in the train were startled by the scene. The woman became so furious that she grabbed the man's collar and asked others to help. Some male passengers immediately offered to help, seizing the man, while some beat him with fists.
As the train pulled into the Zhenping Road Station, the man tried to escape and ran to the escalator, but the group of men rushed out and followed him, and caught him again, according to another witness who gave her name as Shirly.
She said the men beat and kicked the suspect until the police arrived. Both the suspect and the female victim looked to be in their 20s, and the harasser was wearing a striped shirt, she said.
"When we caught him, the harasser didn't even have time to zip up his trousers," said one of the men of the train, who gave his name as Timmy on his microblog.
"Many people came to help and he had no where to run. The man even burst into tears after he was beaten," Timmy said.
Laura said some men kicked the suspect in his private parts.
"I heard the woman scream and I thought no one would come forward to help, but I was deeply moved when many male passengers rushed out of the train to seize the man," said a witness nicknamed Dahua.
Last Wednesday, police caught a man accused of ejaculating on a woman in a crowded Metro Line 1 train. On Thursday, police detained a man who used his cell phone to take pictures under a woman's skirt.
