Metro operator to take some transport card machines offline
Some of the transportation card self-service machines in Shanghai’s Metro stations will be temporarily out of service this week as the city’s subway operator tests an emergency plan.
Shanghai Shentong Group said they would suspend service of some machines on a rotating basis from July 20 to 28.
The machines will be out of service from 9:30am to 10:30am and from 3pm to 4pm in some stations during the period. Passengers can still go to the service counter at a station if they need to put more money on their transport card. Smartphone users can also use the online service provided by the transportation card company.
There are about 300 self-service machines in the city’s Metro stations. The Metro operator said the trial would help make sure passengers can still top up their cards at service counters if the machines break down in the future.
