Mock congressional sessions organized to raise civic consciousness

STUDENTS at the business school of University of Shanghai for Science and Technology imitated lawmakers and political advisers on Thursday, providing suggestions on publicly concerned social problems, in mock sessions of People’s Congress and the Chinese Political Consultative Conference.
The mock sessions were organized to cultivate students' enthusiasm in social affairs and their ability in analyzing social problems, as well as to raise their civic consciousness, said Sun Peilei, deputy Party chief of the university.
One group of students focused on the problems caused by the popular shared-bikes, such as random parking. The students suggested that shared-bikes providers and government should set up digital fences to lay out parking areas.
Another group suggested authorities should enhance supervision on "student loans," which are given to students via internet easily but usually with high interest rates or uncommon collateral, such as nude selfies.
Other problems included Internet finance, Internet celebrity economy and takeaway food.
Professors, lawmakers and political advisers were invited to comment on students' performance.
Zhu Jianmin, director of the university's employment service center, pointed out that students needed to be more brave to talk to related government departments when working out solutions to the problems, rather than discussing among themselves.
