Morning chaos as Metro services on Line 1 and 2 affected by speed limits

It was a chaotic start to the week for many office goers after Metro services in the city were disrupted during morning rush hour today.

A carriage door problem affected Line 1 services at about 9:40am, forcing the Metro operators to restrict train speed. The affected areas were between Huangpi Road South Station and Xujiahui Station.

The malfunctioning train was put out of line and normal services resumed soon after but not before chaotic scenes left many commuters frustrated and flustered.

Trouble was also brewing on Metro Line 2, which was also hit by speed restrictions at 8:30am affecting commuters between Songhong Road Station and People's Square Station.

The speed restrictions for one hour left commuters stranded at People's Square. The Metro operator launched emergency response measures to tackle the large passenger volume in People's Square, Jiangsu Road and Century Avenue stations at 9am.

Some trains of Line 8 and Line 7 did not stop at People's Square and Jing’an Temple stations to reduce the pressure on commuters on Line 2.

Both Line 1 and 2 have resumed normal services.
