Mother kills daughter

A MOTHER killed her 10-year-old daughter at their home in Shanghai's Zhabei District on Thursday morning, the Oriental Morning Post said.
The suspect, identified as Wu, stabbed her daughter in the chest with a fruit knife about 8am while she was surfing the Internet, according to police.
Wu, 40, tried to commit suicide by cutting her wrists, the report said.
Wu's husband, surnamed Hua, called police and mother and daughter were sent to hospital after police reached their home at Yuanping Road.
The girl was declared dead in hospital after an hour of emergency treatment while her mother is in intensive care.
A neighbor told the newspaper there was a strong smell of alcohol when he entered the room with the police.
Vomiting and blood traces could be found on the ground, the neighbor added.
Hospital staff said Wu had been drinking and had probably taken an unidentified drug.
Police were investigating whether Wu had a history of mental illness.
