Mother of dead toddler denies involvement
THE mother of a four-year-old son who was bashed to death by his father denied that she beat her son, a local newspaper reported today.
"I didn't beat him, but I'm partly responsible for his death," Wang Yan, from southwest Guizhou Province, said in the Shanghai Morning Post report.
She told reporters that she was afraid of her husband Zhang Shaobin, 38, when he got drunk and said she would find a job, take good care of her elder son, and wait for her husband to return from jail.
Wang said Zhang Jian's older brother, who was nine years old, wasn't sleeping or eating well since his little brother was killed on Saturday, the report said.
The toddler was brought up by his uncle in Guizhou until his parents brought him to Shanghai in March this year. His father, a worker in a steel mill, is in police custody.
