Mum fails to get deserted baby from police
The woman who deserted her 3-month-old baby in a Shanghai park last Saturday after quarreling with her husband showed up at the police station again yesterday to claim her boy.
The 22-year-old woman said she was under great pressure and did not want to talk to reporters and she asked the police to skip her DNA test, saying it was too troublesome.
The police said the woman left in disappointment after they told her that the DNA test is a required procedure for her to claim her baby.
The woman had tried unsuccessfully to get the baby from a local hospital on Sunday night after the infant was sent there.
The hospital said a DNA test will take about two weeks and cost more than 1,000 yuan (US$159). If the boy is claimed, his parents will have to pay for all his hospital expenses.
