Murder suspect detained

A SUSPECT was detained for allegedly murdering an elderly couple in their apartment in Putuo District, police said last night.
The Shanghai Public Security Bureau said the suspect surnamed Yang had confessed, but that the investigation was ongoing.
The killings were reported about 5pm on Wednesday when the son of the victims found his parents dead from multiple stab wounds in their home on Lane 59 Jintang Road, police said.
The man surnamed Bu was 82 years old and his wife was 81, police said.
Neighbors said the couple's son found them lying in blood when he returned home from work. The apartment door was open and the place looked as though it had been searched as things were scattered about, neighbors added.
Police said the area was soon cordoned off and a team was established to investigate the case.
Yang, 29, from out of town, was caught about 1am on Thursday, police said.
Officers said Yang did some decoration work for the family and went to Bu asking for money but was rejected, which sparked the killings.
Neighbors said the couple were friendly, nice and liked to play mahjong.
