Mystery death in Pudong apartment
A MAN died in an apartment rented out to more than 10 people in the Pudong New Area yesterday morning.
The 45-year-old man, a manager at Shenjin Restaurant on Lingshan Road, was found dead at around 3am when his roommates tried to wake him up to go to work, according to a restaurant employee.
Police were still investigating the cause of death at the apartment, which was turned into a dormitory for restaurant staff, in the No. 2 Taolin residential community.
The man's daughter said her father was in good health. His roommates said he had chatted with them before going to bed around 10pm.
Residents said they had complained to the neighborhood committee many times about the group rental.
The neighborhood committee did not intervene because the per capita area for tenants was more than 5 square meters, thus it could not be defined as illegal group renting, an official said.
