Mystery killer animal caught on camera but not identified
THE mysterious animal, which attacked a village in suburban Pudong New Area in February, was caught on surveillance cameras last weekend but it was still difficult to identify the species.
Shanghai Television Station showed a four-footed animal prowling the village in a blurred, grainy footage. On February 22, villagers in Xuanqiao Town reported that 64 chickens and ducks were killed by a mystery animal. On Saturday, a villager surnamed Xu, said he lost six chickens.
The footage found three predators instead of one as previously suspected. “From the footage, we could see they took less than 10 minutes to kill the chickens,” Xu said. Because the footage was taken at night with no lights, it was difficult to identify them. They look like foxes and their hair color resembled that of raccoon dogs.
“The footage was obscure, it’s hard to tell,” Gu Jianming, director of Pudong New Area’s forestry station told the television station. “We will set up infrared monitor this time.”
