NBA shop a big hit

SHOOTING hoops games and the jerseys of star players are proving to be major attractions at the US National Basketball Association's display at the Expo.

The NBA's activity is at its 250-square-meter Expo Culture Center store which opened on April 20, the first day of the Expo's trial operation.

It features a range of league merchandise, including jerseys, basketballs, footwear, memorabilia and souvenirs.

Lunch times and nights are the busiest periods, said manager Fan Liping, and Chinese youngsters and foreigners are the main customers. The jersey of Los Angeles guard Kobe Bryant is the most popular product.

Austrian Martin Mayr said he wanted to relax at the store after walking around the site for a long time and enjoyed the shooting game.

Store manager Fan said the store will keep running at the permanent Culture Center after Expo finished.

It is the first NBA outlet of the eight in China using a new global retail design, including arena-style lighting and featuring game footage.

China's first NBA store was opened in Beijing in July 2008 to serve up its huge fan base.
