'Narcotics police' con man jailed
A CON MAN who told victims drugs has been found among their online purchases and got them to pay cash into a "safe" bank account has been jailed.
The man, who was not named, was sentenced to two years and seven months in prison, Jinshan District People's Procuratorate said yesterday.
A victim told Jinshan police in January that he has been duped out of 50,000 yuan (US$8,140).
He received a call informing him that drugs had been found among goods he ordered online. He was told to call "narcotics police" on a number provided by the caller. The bogus officer said his bank account was being frozen and he must move his cash to a "safe" account.
Three other victims were discovered. The suspect was traced to Fujian Province.
