Network to offer convenient treatment for varicosity set up
UNDER a trial of health reform, some local hospitals have set up a network to offer convenient treatment for people suffering from varicosity, whose sufferers are those who have to stand while working. In a system involving both city-level and district-level hospitals, specialists from big hospitals go to grassroots hospitals to treat patients and train doctors.
Dr Ge Xiangqian from Shanghai Changhang Hospital in the network said about 70 percent people receiving minimally invasive surgery for varicosity are people who should stand for a long time while working. “About 20 percent are primary and middle school teachers and the rest are policemen, doctors, nurses, cooks and salespersons,” he said. “Long-time standing can influence blood circulation to the veins in lower limbs. Blood doesn’t flow back to heart in time while accumulates in the veins of legs and feet, resulting tortuous and swollen veins.”
Ge said people who need to stand for a long time should arouse awareness for varicosity prevention, while those with symptoms must go to doctors for help to prevent further complications like bleeding and ulceration.
