New cruises add Russian visitors to Shanghai Expo

NEW cruises will be launched next year to bring more visitors from Russia to Shanghai's World Expo.

Cruises by "Legend of the Seas" between Shanghai and Japan will add a stopover in the Russian coastal city Vladivostok, according to deal signed yesterday by Shanghai International Port (Group) Co Ltd and the liner's operator Royal Caribbean International Ltd.

The liner is expected to bring more than 10,000 Russian visitors to the Shanghai World Expo from May to October next year, today's Oriental Morning Post reported, citing RCI officials.

RCI has published next year's schedule for the "Legend of the Seas," which will run seven routes connecting Japan, South Korea, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Shanghai has seen a sharp rise of inbound cruise visitors, tourism officials told the newspaper. Passenger volume at Shanghai International Cruise Passenger Terminal skyrocketed by 258 percent from February to October compared with the same period last year. About 600,000 people are expected to visit while cruising next year.
