New patrol team bolsters enforcement of rules on Metro

A 100-member enforcement team launched patrols inside the city's Metro network today.
The full-time, uniformed officers will intervene in Metro rule violations such as begging and vending in the Metro network, spreading fliers, evading tickets or illegally using senior cards.
Each of the 14 operating Metro lines will see at least two team members making inspections inside the train carriages. They will hold law-enforcement certificates and are empowered to hand out tickets to violators, who must pay a fine.
According to the Shanghai Metro Management Regulation issued on January 1, violators will be fined anywhere from 50 to 500 yuan.
Meanwhile, a total of 2,300 Metro staffers were named part-time regulation enforcement members on Wednesday, said Shanghai Shentong Group, the city's Metro operator. Each of the 333 stations (including two Meglev stations) of Shanghai's subway system will have two part-time members on duty at the same time.
The enforcement team will cooperate with and seek help from Metro police in conflicts when violence or other disputes are involved.
