New route for festival travelers

PACKAGES to Australia and New Zealand for the Spring Festival holiday market are not so popular this year, travel companies said yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Middle East and North Africa have become the new hot spots for people traveling abroad.

The Shanghai China International Travel Service Co Ltd said that in past years, packages to Australia and New Zealand would have been sold out about a month before the holiday.

Packages to Egypt, Tunisia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates have been selling out. Tourists were growing more confident of their safety in such areas, the companies said.

The new Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the world's tallest building, was also proving to be an attraction.
